A resident of Westlake, he was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Shelton grew up on a ranch where he loved tending to horses. At the age of 17, he joined the Navy where he later served in WWII and the Korean War. He retired from Conoco where he spent many years as an electrician. He enjoyed fishing and spending time at his camp. Everyone who knew him, loved him. Shelton was a remarkable husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all.
Preceding him in death include his loving wife, Karena Johnson; sons, Steve Johnson and Danny Johnson; his daughter, Andrea Ardoin and son-in-law Derrell Ardoin.
He is survived by his daughter, Christina Ryder and husband Tim; five grandchildren, Graham Johnson, Josh Ardoin, Jaden Ardoin, Scott Ryder and Carly Lucero; eight great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Harbor Hospice for the care they gave Shelton.
The family will welcome relatives and friends at Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake on Sunday, July 31, 2022 beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 6:30 p.m. and will resume at 8:00 a.m. Monday, August 1, 2022 until the time of services. Funeral Services will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be immediately following at Highland Memory Gardens. Deacon Fred Reed with St. John Bosco Catholic Church will be officiating at the services.
