Born in Huron, Ohio, George was the son of the late Auty and Flora (Coffey) Ferguson. He lived a life defined by integrity, devotion to family, and a quiet strength that made everyone around him feel safe and cared for.
George was the beloved husband of Eve Elizabeth "Beth" Ferguson (née O'Neill), with whom he shared a loving partnership built on faith, laughter, and unwavering commitment. He was a proud and devoted father to Rick (Allison), Scott (Kimberly), and Brent (Merideth) Ferguson. Nothing brought George greater joy than being "Dad", "Pops" and "Grandpa." He treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren—George, Henry, Ian, Brittany, Alicia, Soren, and Jasper—and was blessed to be the proud great-grandfather of seven. His love for his family was constant, unconditional, and the foundation of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Delbert, Auty Jr., Edgar, Eugene, Robert, Opal Barlag, Aileen Ison, Phyllis Ferguson, Josephine Wiggins, Martha Gillman, and Mary Bissantz. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews who knew him as a caring and dependable uncle.
George proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era. His military career included service as an Air Policeman, Special Agent Investigator, and Personnel Recruiter. He carried the values of honor, discipline, and service throughout his life.
Following his military service, George devoted his career to protecting and serving others. At the Mentor Police Department, he became the department's first Personnel and Training Manager, helping shape future generations of officers. Even after retirement, his commitment to keeping others safe continued through leadership roles in private security with KeyBank, the DeBartolo Corporation, Simon Property Group, and as Security Director at BallenIsles Community and Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
While George's accomplishments were many, those who knew him best will remember him for something far greater. He was loving, protective, gentle, and endlessly dependable. He had a warm sense of humor that could brighten a room, a sharp mind that delighted in word games and brain teasers, and a love of golf that brought him many happy days. Yet his favorite place was never on a golf course or at work—it was at home, surrounded by the people he loved most.
George's steady presence, quiet wisdom, and generous heart were gifts to everyone fortunate enough to know him. His family will forever remember the comfort of his hugs, the sound of his laughter, the example he set, and the countless ways he showed his love—not only through words, but through a lifetime of faithful actions. Though he will be deeply missed, the values he lived by and the love he gave so freely will continue to guide and inspire those who carry his memory in their hearts.
Committal services, with United States Air Force military honors, will be held on Monday, July 20, 2026, at 11:15 a.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, Ohio 44273.
George's legacy is one of love, honor, kindness, and unwavering devotion to family. He will be forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
