June Knettel (nee:Dominick), age 77, passed away March 14, 2012, after a 10 month courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. June went to be with her Savior Jesus and the host of other saints and family members that have gone before her, including Lloyd her beloved husband of 38 years, her parents Frank and Mary Dominick (nee Mayer) and her nephew, Dana Dominick. June was surrounded by her loving siblings, Mary Ann Jeffers, Nancy Blackie (Bruce), James Dominick (Betty), her brother and sister-in-law, Virg and Pat Knettel, and her nephews, nieces and friends.
June was a lifelong resident of the Cleveland area and still met regularly with her friends from Wilbur Wright Junior High School, West Technical High School, Williams & Company, where she worked for 35 years, and her ceramics group.
June was an accomplished crocheter who made countless one-of-a-kind baby, wedding, and graduation afghans. She was an avid golfer and bowler, and decorator of ceramics. She was also a volunteer teacher who helped young readers in Catholic schools in Cleveland and Bay Village. She used her skills as a typist to serve the blind community of Cleveland, retyping school books, novels and the classics through the Cleveland Sight Center. For the past decade she has supported, encouraged and laughed with members of the Woman's Cancer Support Group at St. Raphael's drawing on her experience as a 40-year breast cancer survivor.
Most importantly she will be remembered as a devoted Christian, wife, daughter, sister, “Doon Ding”, "Auntie", “Auntie Dooner”, and “Gr-auntie”. Even though she and Lloyd did not have children of their own, they loved, cared for and instructed their 15 nephews and nieces: Michael Jeffers (Toni); Thomas Jeffers; James Jeffers (Amiee); John Jeffers (Laura); Laura Kralovenec (John); Deborah Shafer; Gregg Dominick (Stephanie); Mary Placeway (Paul); Sue Glen (Steve); Cathy Brown; Mike Knettel (Jacqui); John Knettel (Sarah); Caroline King (Lee); Joe Knettel; Sandy Archey (Dave); and 13 “Gr-auntie children”.
