Michael R. Coyne, age 89, of Westlake, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and family devotion. He was born on November 13, 1935 and grew up surrounded by the strong bonds of a big Irish family.
Michael was the devoted husband of Joyce, his cherished “Lovebug,” with whom he shared 65 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life rooted in love and faith, and made countless memories. He was the proud father of five children: Debra Coyne, Diane Coyne, Kathryn Clark, Michael Coyne, Jr., and Mary (Ken) Kozar. He was the cherished grandfather of Ryan (Amanda), Jenna, Daniel, Matthew, Joseph, Julia, Anna, and Tyler and great-grandfather of Jackson and Ava. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Jack, Kay, Patrick, Tom, Betty, Rita, and Peggy. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Michael was proud to be part of the very first graduating class of Saint Edward High School, a place with special meaning to him, as his father helped build the original school. After graduation, he honorably served his country in the United States Army.
In his younger years, Michael was recognized as one of the “winningest softball pitchers” around, and continued his love for the game after retirement by playing in the Huffers and Puffers league for many years. Friends and neighbors often joked about his impeccable, “award-winning” lawn, a reflection of his dedication, hard work, and attention to detail.
Michael was a family man whose love and steady presence anchored those around him. He had a sharp wit and a passion for good-natured debates. He enjoyed teasing those he loved, a trait that always brought laughter to gatherings. His sense of humor, caring nature, and deep devotion to Joyce and their family will be remembered forever. He never missed the opportunity to be involved in the lives of his children and grandchilden, celebrate their milestones, and share in their joys. Michael will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know and to love him.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Corrigan Craciun Funeral Home 23040 Center Ridge Road in Westlake. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 18th at 11:00 AM at St. Bernadette Church on 2256 Clague Road in Westlake. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brook Park.
