Robert J. Bregar (DOB: 12/17/27), 90 years

Graduated from Ohio University in 1950, became a registered architect in 1953. Employed at Ward & Conrad from 1950 – 1969 when he left as Associate Partner to form his first firm with a partner. In 1977 he founded his own firm which was in practice until 2005 when he retired.

He designed such structures as the Arthur G. McKee building in Independence, the rehabilitation of the Ohio Historical Center in Columbus, the first downtown high-rise office building in 30 years in Steubenville, the Pena building in Euclid, Fanny Baer’s Restaurant in Perkins, the Midwest Banks in Euclid and on Euclid Avenue at East 12th Street and many social service facilities.

The bulk of his work in the 80’s and 90’s was in school buildings. He was the architect for the EHOVE JVS (Milan, Ohio) for 25 continuous years, working with three superintendents. He was the architect at Wellington Schools for 15 years and worked in 45 school districts for periods of time ranging up to 14 years. Also in his credits were Lincoln West High School, Paul Lawrence Dunbar and Hicks Elementary Schools, all in Cleveland, and Taylor Hall at Kent State University in his position as Project Architect.

His memberships included Board President of Catholic Social Services of Cuyahoga County and of Dial Industries; Boy Scouts, Tau Kappa Epsilon, N.C.A.R.B., AIA, ASO, Temporary Professional Services of Norwalk, Cuyahoga Community College Technical Committee, Villa Angela/St. Joseph Education Commission, American Arbitration Association, City of North Royalton Architectural Review, and others.

In addition to his beloved wife Barbara, married for 66 years, he is survived by his five children Catherine A. (Brad), Robert D. (Terri), Mark S. (Nancy), Sister Laura, OSU, Kim M. (Tom), eight grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren.

Robert was son of the late Joseph and Amelia Bregar and brother to Fred (Mary Ann) and Joe (Noreen) both deceased.

The family will receive friends at HOLICK CRACIUN FUNERAL HOME, 23040 Center Ridge Rd. Westlake, OH on Friday August 31, 2018 from 4-8 PM. Inurnment at Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery, Seville, OH to be announced at a later date.
