Albert Joseph Bird

Born October 13, 1937 in Jersey City NJ, to parents Antoinette Tagliaferri-Bird and John Bird, Albert spent humble beginnings growing up with his three brothers, Ray, John and Tony before earning a full athletic scholarship to Syracuse University where he received a bachelor’s degree in 1961. He later made his home in California, where he built a distinguished career in aerospace engineering and contributed to the Apollo space program reflective of his intelligence, dedication, and commitment to excellence. Albert also earned his MBA at National University in 1992.

Albert cherished his family above all and was a devoted husband to Alice Bird, sharing 69 years of marriage grounded in love and enduring family traditions. He is survived by his wife Alice, their five children Valerie, Lenore, Alison and husband Brad, Albert II and Robert. He was a proud grandfather of eight grandchildren Blake, Erica, Samantha, Celeste, Jacqueline, Michael, Abigail, and Jonathan; and great grandfather of three to Madison, Raelyn and Hudson. He is also survived by his last living brother Tony and family and his other two late brothers’ respective families. Albert was known to his cousins on the east coast as “Butchie” and countless family members who all loved and adored him as Uncle Al.

Albert will be remembered for his fierce strength, inciteful wisdom, and generous heart. He listened with care, offered thoughtful counsel, and made those around him feel supported and loved. Through holidays, meals, and everyday moments, he and Alice created memories the family will treasure for a lifetime. His life was marked by integrity, humility, and he led by example teaching the value of hard work. The lessons he shared, the funny stories he told, and the steady presence he provided will remain the core of the Bird family foundation for generations.

Services were private and held at Pierce Brothers in Westlake Village, CA.
