Carmela Maria D’Astoli was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 8, 1942 to Frank and Maria Tessitore. Her father called her “Whale Heart”. This nickname suited her well as she was the kindest, most loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend in the world.
“Camille”, as her family and friends called her, grew up in New York before moving to California at the age of five and eventually settling in Agoura Hills. For 20 years, she worked at the Las Virgenes Unified School District. In 1968 she married an English teacher and had a son shortly thereafter.
Camille is survived by her husband and friend of over 45 years, Fred D’Astoli; son, John D’Astoli (Michaele); sisters, Theresa Montemorra, Joanne Phillips (Tim) and Tina Withers (Charles); grandchildren, Nicholas, Alessia and Maria D’Astoli and Nicholas and Alex Czajka; niece, Lisa Menghi, Camille’s god child, and Lisa’s brother, Joseph, and nephews, Michael and Matthew Domingo; and several great nieces and nephews.
Camille has gone to be reunited with her Mom and Dad, free from pain and suffering, welcomed by our Lord. We miss her, and we wish she didn’t have to leave us, but we know that she is now happy and at peace, and of course, she is watching over us, her great “whale heart” sending us her love.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, Oct. 26th at 10am at St. Jude Catholic Church in Westlake Village. Please join us for a burial at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park in Westlake Village and a reception to follow burial.
