During 1987, he gave me a PhD course titled Radar. A very impressive teaching and experience. 
In the final exam, students could not agree on a time. He said: will give two exams in different times and anyone can choose. Then, he received an objection from 1 or 2 students claiming the two time slots are not good for them. Generously, he gave a third time slot. This puts too much pressure in writing 3 exams. That was great gesture from him revealing his kind personality. 

It has been a number of years since the passing of this wonderful man.  As a fundraiser, when I asked Chuck for a donation for a silent auction, etc., he would always donate some amazing art from his private collection.  He was very generous to so many!  A wonderful friend as well.  He is missed by many.  May his life continue to be an inspiration.

I was a graduate student at USC seeking a Ph.D from 1970 to 1973.My wife Titsa Papantoni-Kazakos was another Ph.D candidate. We both received our Ph.D's in 1973. In 1971. our beloved daughter Effie was born, while Titsa continued writing her brilliant Ph.D thesis even in the hospital bed. She then went on to become Assistant Professor at Rice University in 1973, obtaining the only open faculty position in EE in  the US at the time, and start an illustrious career, as the first ever woman Engineering Professor at Rice.  
Chuck Weber was a member of my Ph.D advisory committee. He was advising and encouraging both of us!  I still remember his encouraging phrase in our most difficult hours:  "Be encouraged: It is the darkest just before dawn"..  He was so right! He will be always remembered for both his excellent research, his great books (which I have religiously saved), and his outstanding mentoring and human compassion! He was the most supportive of all Professors!  I cannot  express enough my love, appreciation and eternal infinite thanks for supporting both me and Titsa in very difficult times. I address these thanks to his family and everybody who loved him: His great memory will always be alive and strong   
with us!  He left us too early!! Please be proud to be his family and friends! I am personally very proud, fortunate and happy to have known this unique Professor!  

Dr. Charles C. Weber was my professor for Radar course at USC in Spring 1975 semester. He was a very nice person. When he gave us midterm take home exam, he gave a hint to solve a problem. The whole class follwed his hint and got high marks. He gave low marks for that problem. I went to meet him in his office and told him that the problem can be solved without his hint. He realized that I was right. He gave me 70 out of 70 marks for the midterm. At the end of the semester, I got an A for the course. He did not have any grudge against me. In the same semester, I had another course Estimation Theory with Dr. Ali Habibi. In one lecture, he showed that the proof of a theorem was wrong in the textbook written by USC EE department Chair Dr. Nasser E. Nahi. He gave a new proof. When I went home, I found out that Dr. Habibi had made a mistake in his proof and he was wrong. The proof in the textbook was correct. I went to Dr. Nahi's office and showed him the what had happened  and Dr. Nahi agreed with me. He suggested that I should talk to Dr. Habibi. I showed Dr. Habibi where he had made mistake and his proof was wrong. In the next lecture he apologized that he had made a mistake in the proof and mentioned that one of you came to my office to correct me. Eventually, he gave me a B in the course having some grudge against me. I had seen injustice during my school and college years. In this regard, I value Dr. Charles Weber for being just without any prejudice.  We all miss good professor like Dr. Charles C. Weber.

Chuck was kind and sharing while on earth, now he is in Heaven loving us from there.

Chuck Weber: you are in my thoughts and prayers. I was privileged to know you - you were a kind, warm, generous person and brought joy to the lives of many people with your warmth.

I miss Chuck's friendship and genuine curiosity.  Chuck was a man of big ideas.  When social networks were at their infancy, he understood their profound role and impact on our society.  He sought to learn and teach with great enthusiasm.  He will be missed profoundly.

On behalf of the USC Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering and the Viterbi School of Engineering, I express my deep condolences on the death of our friend and colleague Chuck Weber, who had a distinguished 45 year career on our faculty and retired as professor in May 2008.  He was one of the original "Magnificent 7" communications faculty who joined USC in the early 1960s, and was a leader in the tremendous rise of the academic reputation of our department and school of engineering.  He was the author of many technical publications and a widely-used textbook, and was honored as Life Fellow of IEEE.  He was most proud as supervisor of 26 PhD graduates who have gone on to leadership positions in technical fields, who started companies, and are successful entrepreneurs who continue his pioneering work.

Chuck was kind, gentle, and a great mentor to students, faculty and staff.  He was a cheerful, positive person who cared deeply about his friends and colleagues, and always brought out and encouraged the best qualities in people.  He was a memorable person, he leaves a great legacy, and we will all miss him.

 My Uncle Larry when I was 4 to 6 years old was my own personal jungle gym that came back to visit from time to time.  I'm not sure who got tired first but He never let on that he was getting tired. We went would do this until it was dinner time of time for bed; depending on when he got in town.   A few years later it was tinker toys, lincoln logs and lego's. Uncle Larry would encourage me and give helpful  hints to make something stronger or with better support. By this time, I know it was me that got mentally tired first but once again; He never let on. 
It was around this time that my parents got divorced.  I'm not sure how but I got to take my first small plane ride.  I also learned that Uncle Larry was also a pilot of small planes.  Over the year and many trips of flying with Larry, I learned how to do the preflight check for the plane.  Checking to make sure the flaps worked, the tail moved back and forth, checking the leading edge of the wings for dents and abnormalities ( not know what that meant at the time but knew to look for them)  and finally checking the fuel tanks for water in them.  The one thing I wasn't allowed to do was check the propeller but  I understood why.  I was only 9 or 10 at the time.     Also during this time is when I took my first real plane ride and that was in a Boeing 737 from Dayton to LA.    I was finally flying to go see my Uncle Larry in him home town instead of him flying here.   
During this trip we did the usual tourist things; going to Universal Studios , Lion Country Safari, Sea World, Science Museum,  the Beach  and of course the original Disney Land.   It was also during this trip that I learn that Uncle Larry was like other people.   It was on one of our day trips and we had to drop Uncle Larry off at Hughes Aircraft.   I didn't think anything of it but my mom asked if he was dress appropriately for going to Hughes Aircraft.  Larry said he was fine with how he was dresses.  Keep in mind this is in the mid 70's when three piece polyester suits were business attire along with briefcases.  Larry choice for attire that day was running shoes, sweat socks,  running  shorts, white dress t-shirt and to top it all off his briefcase.   We proceed to drive to Hughes and drop him off.  Yes he is the only dressed in running attire while all the rest are dressed in suits.   I am sure many of you have memories of Larry and his fashion style.    
 Forward some more years.  His trips back East aren't as many dues to lest work back here but he still made it back when he could.  I did look back to these visits because now I was older and not the little boy I once was but starting to be the person I am now.  We would talk about what was in the news, sometimes politics or just talk like a son and father would.   This meant a lot to me because my own father had died by this time and Larry whether he meant to or not was a very important father / male figure to me.   He was always available to talk when he was back here or just a phone call away. 
 It is also during this time that Larry started his different organizations and helping random people he would meet.  I would always joke that Larry is the only person I know that can put 25 hours in a 24 hour day.  He seemed to be always on the go between teaching at USC , Knights of Malta, the children's charity he helped start,  the different business ventures he was involved in and many more.  
Now then I don't know if it was Jimmy or during one of Larry's many events at his house in Sherman Oaks but I was calling to ask Larry about something.   When the phone is answered, I say “is Uncle Larry there” and got the reply back ‘there is no Larry here”.   I reply back “I mean Uncle Chuck”  and I hear back “just a second”.  As the phone is being handed to Larry I hear the person that answered the phone ask Larry “Doesn't your family know your name?”   I got a chuckle out of it and I think Larry did to cause he also laughed about it.   To me he is Uncle Larry so he wouldn't be confused with his Father,Grandpa Charlie.  
 Today we say our goodbyes or until we meet again to my Uncle Charlie.  I hope he has touched your life as much as he has touched mine.    Will you please take a moment to think of one thing that he did that your life a little brighter.

Chuck was a very special person, with a heart of gold and an inspirational outlook on life.  We will miss him and his smile dearly.

I have only good memories about Chuck.  He approached all his wide-ranging interests and projects with an enthusiasm and passion that contributed to their success.  He had such a positive attitude and an open, honest way with people that made them want to collaborate with him.  He will be in my thoughts and prayers.
