Conchita T. Brown, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on June 10, 2024 in Thousand Oaks, CA. Born in Manila, Philippines, she moved to the United States in 1970 and has called California her home since then.
Growing up in Manila from humble beginnings, Conchita learned early on the importance and value of hard work, determination, and resilience – and embodied these traits throughout her entire life. A strong testament was her commitment to learning all she could and her tireless drive to provide a better life for her family. She endured hardships as a child, but made sure to attend school every day, rain or shine, and worked on the weekends as a street vendor in Paco Market to afford her school expenses. She persevered, studied hard, and proudly graduated from her high school as 3rd Honorable Mention.
She began her career in USA as a Steno/Typist at Prudential Financial and enrolled in the correspondence course offered by American College, despite being told she lacked the capabilities to handle the course rigor and pass the examinations. She successfully passed and ultimately earned her FLMI, CLU and ChFC designations. As a result, Prudential offered her a position as a Financial Professional, which she held until her retirement in 2016.
Conchita loved to travel and see the world. This includes piling her three children into the car and driving cross country in the 1980s to see Yellowstone National Park, Mount Rushmore, and the World Expo in Vancouver, Canada. She also took her grandchildren on a Mediterranean cruise. She explored Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, and Russia with her daughters as they cruised the Baltic Sea. Several years after, she returned to Italy with her three children and later traveled throughout China with family, even climbing the Great Wall. At 60-years-old, she was zip lining in Costa Rica. She has also embarked on multiple pilgrimages throughout Europe. All of these travels were just a tiny glimpse into the lifetime of adventures she has taken with her loved ones.
In addition to traveling, Conchita enjoyed a fun casino and often shared the fruits of her labor with her family, including a luxury suite at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas!
In her later years, she traveled to Philippines annually and reconnected with her high school classmates.
Conchita always soared and seized every moment and opportunity. She sacrificed for her family, dreamed, stayed hungry, and never gave up. Until the end, she remained strong in spirit and faith.
Conchita leaves behind her three children, Marivic and her husband Quon; Josie and her husband Dave; and John and his wife Jennifer. She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Rachel, Brandon, Brittany, and Brian; and by numerous relatives in the Philippines.
She is forever loved and remembered.
