June 23, 1959May 17, 2020

My beautiful partner, Daniel Dickey, of almost 35 years passed away early Sunday morning (May 17th) after a seven-month battle with metastatic stage 4 cancer. He was a real “trooper” enduring four surgeries and many rounds of chemotherapy during this ordeal. Close friends and family knew about his struggle with this dreadful disease but being a very private person, he didn’t want me to put anything on social media till he was gone. After the first several rounds of chemotherapy, he felt well enough for us to take a trip to Honolulu to visit family and friends. I know he loved seeing his Hawaii ‘Ohana and they loved seeing him as well. For much of his life he was an outstanding orchid grower winning many prizes and getting one of his prized plants on the cover of the “Awards Quarterly of the American Orchid Society”. The photo shows Danny doing one of the things he loved most in life – working in the yard on his landscaping. I am devastated and my heart is broken. ~Merle Arnold

I was looking for photos of Danny, when I found this picture of Kata, one of the Dickey’s beloved dachshunds! I think the sunglasses belonged to Mrs. Dickey. I have so many memories of Danny, he was so full of life! As anyone who went to high school with him probably knows, is that Natalie Wood also went to the same high school in the 50s. Last Saturday, I was watching a documentary about her, and suddenly remembered that one of my yearbooks had a feature about famous alumni. As I was flipping through all the yearbooks to find Natalie’s pictures, all i could see were only pictures of Danny jumping out at me, as if it was a movie! Rest in peace, dear friend, I know you were with me at that moment! Say hi to your parents. 🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️

Danny was one of my best friends in high school I truly loved him very much. Though our lives would separate completely after college, he has remained an important part of my history. My heart is breaking. All of my condolences to the family.
