Don Franklin of Agoura Hills was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on June 13, 2025. He passed peacefully, joining his beloved wife of 70 years, Shirley, who preceded him in death. He was 98 years young.
Don was born on July 29, 1926, in Los Angeles, CA to Genevieve and Alexander Franklin.
He served his country proudly as a Radioman Second Class Petty Officer in the United States Navy during World War II.
Don met the love of his life, Shirley June Jensen, at a USO dance in 1946, and they married soon after. Together they raised four children in Reseda, CA, before settling in Agoura Hills in 1971.
Don proudly served with the Los Angeles County Fire Department for 38 years, beginning his career as an engineer and rising through the ranks to become a respected fire captain. His leadership, dedication, and passion for service left a lasting impact on those who served alongside him. After retiring in 1986, Don continued his commitment to the fire service by helping to establish a training facility at Del Valle with four fellow retired captains. There, he mentored and trained generations of firefighters until his final retirement in 2009.
A man of quiet strength and enduring faith, Don was devoted to his family, church, and community. He was known for his warmth, steady presence, and unwavering support of those he loved.
He will be deeply missed and remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his four children, eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
A flag ceremony will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Los Angeles County Fire Station 144, located at 31981 Foxfield Drive, Westlake Village, CA 91361.
