A woman of God, a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and widow...
Loyal, loving, caring... If you were touched by an angel it was probably our mother. She welcomed everyone into her home and life. Dorothy loved life and loved her family. She is survived by her two daughters Beverly Jones and Nancy Kimes; Nancy’s three children Pamela Beth Rosenthal, Daniel Lewis Hivner and Victoria Renee Powers; Beverly’s adopted daughter Brandy Louise Jones... including Pamela’s, Daniel’s and Victoria’s children - Jessica Renee Maynez Paul, Brandy Louise Hivner; Veronica Suzanne Louise Vero, Daniel Thomas Hivner and Makayla Hivner; Joshua Robert Powers, Alyssa Ann-Louise Powers and Devin Michael Toth. There are also two great-great grandchildren who live in Australia and North Carolina, Luna and Jeremiah. Along with niece Janice Pass from Maine; and nephew’s John, Kenneth and Stephan Lewis and their families from Rhode Island.
Dorothy was married to Thelbert William Hill from 1936 – 1988, 51 years. They lived in Maine until they relocated to California in the early 1960’s as our father’s work was being reassigned. He had worked for Heinz Co. for 10 years.
After the death of our father she then met and married Alton Sweet in 1990, who was a member of her church and was also from Maine. Alton passed away in 1999. He was a real blessing to our mother.
Dorothy worked as a bank teller and retired after 20 years. While married to Alton they shared their residence in California and Maine, and for most of the nine years they were together, lived in each state for six months of the year. She had quite a sense of humor and didn’t let things get her down. She loved playing cards and we all tagged her as the Skip-Bo Queen. She was a lot of fun to be around and she gave comfort, advice and support when needed. She demonstrated unconditional love and many people called her mom.
