Dr. Leroy F. Grantham

Dr. LeRoy F. Grantham was born in Chadron, Nebraska on November 23, 1929. His family were farmers and suffered during the depression years with the drought and poor economy. He attended Chadron Schools and after high school, he enrolled in Chadron State College where he received a bachelor's degree in education and then received a fellowship to attend Iowa State University, Ames to pursue a Master's Degree in inorganic chemistry. After his Master's Degree, he was drafted and spent two years with the Army Chemical Corps in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. After his military service, he received the Dowell Fellowship and with the help of the GI Bill he earned his Doctorate in physical chemistry at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. He and his wife Fay moved to Canoga Park, CA in 1959 where LeRoy started working at North America Aviation, which is now Boeing. He holds over 35 patents and has authored or coauthored many scientific papers. He retired from Boeing in 1991. He enjoyed gardening, walking, reading and most importantly spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Fay, his three daughters, Becky, Connie, and Theresa. He raised his sister's three sons Tom, Jay, and Terry after her death. He also is survived by nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. His family has lived in Calabasas for 53 years. He was compassionate, loving, sincere, humble with a servant's heart. He served in many areas in First Baptist Church in Woodland Hills. He broke his femur seven years ago and developed Alzheimer's shortly thereafter, depriving him of all his physical and mental abilities.
