Betty was born April 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California to Warren Wallace and Mildred Catherine Smith. She grew up in what is today considered south central Los Angeles with her brother Warren H., attending local schools there, and ultimately graduating from George Washington High School. During her time in high school, Betty met and married Charles John “Chuck” Campbell, her high school sweetheart.
A beauty throughout her entire life, Betty was crowned Miss Interstate of 1944 while Chuck was off serving in the Army Air Force in Burma during WWII. After Chuck finally returned home, Betty put aside her career to help raise their growing family as a homemaker, and Chuck went to work in civilian life to support them. Chuck eventually entered the growing aerospace industry that was just beginning to flourish in the early 1950s, and he and Betty moved to Woodland Hills in the San Fernando Valley. Chuck worked as a supervisor and then manager for Rocketdyne in Canoga Park, while Betty continued as a stay-at-home mother.
Betty loved to read and instilled this value in her children whenever possible. She was a loving, caring, always attentive mother who enjoyed her large family come what may, and was the perennial ray of sunshine, and cheerleader for the entire group. Betty’s favorite thing in life was social gatherings with her children and extended family; especially Christmas Eve’s which were always gala affairs.
Once her children had left the nest, Betty began a long and enjoyable career as a secretary at the Pinecrest School in Woodland Hills. After retirement from Pinecrest, Betty and Chuck moved to Thousand Oaks where she continued to live and enjoy life until her passing. Betty was preceded in death by Chuck who died in 2012.
Betty and Chuck were blessed with seven children who survive them; Charles W. (Teresa), David (Ellen), Steven (Yvonne), Christopher (Karen), Marianne Acerboni (Craig), Lisa Breummer (Emmett), Elizabeth C., 16 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
