May 9, 1958 – May 8, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gary Kemp announces his peaceful passing on May 8, 2026, just one day shy of his 68th birthday.
Born on May 9, 1958, in Hollywood, California, to Luther and Eileen Kemp, Gary was gregarious in every sense of the word. A natural-born leader with a fierce entrepreneurial spirit, he launched his own lath and plaster business at the remarkable age of 22. He was a fixture on the jobsite, respected for his work ethic and his "simple man" approach to life’s challenges.
Gary lived life at his own rhythm. Whether he was boating at Lake Havasu, camping in the motorhome, golfing, or riding motorcycles, he was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. A lover of music, Gary enjoyed playing the bass and singing karaoke. Having spent most of his life in Southern California, he possessed a unique ability to provide detailed directions anywhere—without ever needing a map.
Above all his professional and personal achievements, Gary’s greatest joy was his family. He and his wife, Beverly, were high school sweethearts who shared a beautiful marriage together for 49 years. He was a constant fixture on the sidelines and in the front row, beaming with pride as he watched his grandchildren succeed in both athletics and academics.
Gary is survived by his devoted wife, Beverly; his two children, Jeremy Kemp (Jennifer) and Shawna Gunther (Kyle); his five cherished grandchildren; and brothers Guy Kemp and Garth Kemp. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eileen Kemp, and father, Luther Kemp.
Services to honor Gary will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 10:00 AM. Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Memorial Park Westlake, CA
