At the grand age 98 years young, Jeanie Doris Bostrup passed from this Earth May 26, 2015 after a short illness. The matriarch of our family was a New Years baby, born in Manvel, North Dakota on January 1st 1917. She grew up in a large family of ten and went to a very small local school and later a much larger one in the city of Grand Forks. With a pharmacist for a father with his own store, our mother loved selling her own candy from her own counter. She met our father in North Dakota and later married him in California in April 1942. During World War Two they started a family, with our father building bombers and our mother looking after the home front. After the war, they moved to Woodland Hills in the San Fernando Valley where our Mom and Dad poured concrete, nailed boards together and built the lovely family home. Later, they added two more children to the nest for a total of three and settled down to raise the family while doing their community work. While our father worked in aerospace and volunteered with the YMCA, our mother became very active in local church work and watching out for the kids. She was instrumental in starting the Woodland Hills Presbyterian Church and later became one of its elders and director of Christian education. As time passed and the family grew up, she became more involved with community and YMCA work. Traveling internationally, Mom and Dad helped to start new YMCA groups all over the world from Egypt to Japan, from Germany to Taiwan. They continued their globe trotting for several years and eventually moved to Westlake Village. Here they join the United Methodist Church and settled into semi-retirement continuing their community work with the local Conejo YMCA. Mom and Dad decided to move again in 1991 and downsize a bit in the process. They lived in a new development in Oak Park until moving again after fourteen years into Sunrise Assisted Living Westlake Village. After our father’s passing, our mother continued to watch her family grow reaching three children, four grand children, eight great grand children, and one great great grand child on the way. She is survived by her family of Sheri and her husband Larry Wilmot, Renee and her husband David Paulson, Gary and his wife Jolan Bostrup, Kimberly and her husband Matt Smith and their children Ian and Kayla, Jan and her husband Lance Wyatt and their children Kaci and Chelsea, Lisa and her husband Kurt Bohmer and their children McKenna, Katelyn, and Brielle, Julie and her husband Christian Pondella and their son Blaise.
