Jeri Ann Brown, 63, passed away peacefully in her Ventura home August 3, 2024. Her loving family miss her positive attitude, strength, support, and mostly, her love and smile. Throughout her last days, the cascade of love from friends overflowed the hearts of her family and brought tremendous peace.
A California native, Jeri was born June 23, 1961, moving to Newbury Park in 1966 when her parents bought their home. Her mother Barbara lived life as an ethical, strong, and independent woman. Jeri embraced these values handed down to her, always holding them in her heart, insisting on living life under her own terms. As an adult, Jeri made Ventura her home, raising two sons and creating her incredible circle of friends.
Diagnosed with cancer in 2012, she astonished all who knew her with her physical and emotional strength - her capacity to undergo cancer treatments and surgeries yet still work and prioritize her family. Never surrendering to her illness, she continued to work, never missing any sports events for her son and at the center of every family get-together. In 2021, she retired from her 40+ year career with Vons, having made many lifelong friends of co-workers and customers. Her strength and perseverance was such that, in the midst of her cancer battle, Jeri cared for her beloved mother when she needed her most - managing her mother’s own cancer treatments, assisting in her daily needs far above and beyond what anyone could possibly expect.
Because of Jeri’s strength and love for people, she gave everyone the gift of many years of joyful presence in their lives as she fiercely battled cancer; reminding all that tomorrow is worth fighting for, to always be willing to try whatever is needed to keep going and be with the people you love. This gift is valued beyond words, and her family and friends are grateful to her for it.
Anyone who knew Jeri knew how proud she was of becoming a grandmother. Themed birthday parties and trips to Disneyland's Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique with granddaughter Willow made her incredibly happy. She ensured Willow could reach her 24/7 by video call; Jeri always answered those calls, often lasting more than an hour, no matter what she was doing or where she was. Too ill to travel, seeing and holding infant grandson Linden for the first time allowed Jeri to close the final chapter of her life in peace. Her final days were surrounded by her family and her dearest friends, Betty and Mike.
Jeri is survived by son Aaron Ranslem, his wife Cori, and their two children -Willow and Linden- of Toledo, Ohio, and son Dillon Brown of Ventura, California. She is also survived by her three brothers- Jack Kinney (Marina), James Kinney (Kelley), and Rick Kinney; her nieces: Angela Haymond, her wife Rajeev, and their six children - James and Dexter Hayes, Harper and Collin Haymond, Daniel and Gabriel Zavala- , Carrie Jadloc (Sal), Samantha and Tabitha Kinney, nephew Bryan Nicholoy; and her loving aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Barbara and Bob Kinney, and brother Robert Kinney.
Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who intensely admired her. She found great strength in her close family and circle of friends.
