Born on March 11, 2001, at Simi Valley Hospital, Joey had a beautiful smile, warm heart, irresistible laugh and sweet personality. A natural and prolific artist from an early age, Joey had a passion for drawing and writing his own comic books, creating vibrant and original superhero universes on a daily basis.
Possessed with a quick wit and known for hilarious “Joeyisms,” he loved family traditions like Mom’s chocolate chip pancakes on Sundays and spending time playing with his brother, Andy, and cousin, Brody. Always eager to provide a tender hug, Joey loved going to concerts and reading with his Dad, attending movies on opening day, and celebrating his birthday by eating at his favorite restaurants.
Joey had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, coupled with an unwavering tenacity in the pursuit of new skills, even when they did not come easily to him. Never one to give up, Joey developed a passion for reading, swimming and playing drums.
Following a few years at Weekday Preschool and Garden Grove Elementary, Joey attended White Oak Elementary from kindergarten through sixth grade. He treasured going on school field trips, listing the Floating Lab and Outdoor School among his favorites. Surrounded by caring friends and teachers, Joey earned a number of reading awards and argued passionately for causes he believed in. A unique and truly special human being, Joey has had a profound impact on those who were lucky enough to know him.
Joey is survived by his father Dan, mother Kirsten, brother Andy, cousins Brody, Kelsey, Kadyn, Kynzie, Kallie, Kollins, Katie and Cameron, uncles Cori, Darren, Scott and Gary, aunts Jennie, Nichole, and Kerrie, grandparents Carole, Paul, Susan, and Bobby, great grandmother Shirley, as well as his treasured cats Emma, Riggins, and Cooper.
