John Burkhardt came into this world on Christmas day in the year 1910 in Medina, North Dakota the youngest child of Frederick and Rosina Burkhardt. He was baptized into Christ in his infancy in a Lutheran church in North Dakota. He was taken by the angels of Christ to his heavenly home on Monday, August 5, 2013.
As a veteran He served in the US Army three times in his life. First, from January 25th, 1933 to January 24th 1936. Second, from February 3, 1936 to February 25, 1937. On December 10, 1942 he was inducted into the Army for the third time and served until January 18th, 1945.
In 1937, he purchased out of the military in order to become married to Emma Schmidt.They married on January 8th 1937 in San Pedro, California. They were married for 58 years. God blessed them with two boys, Jerry and Joe. At the age of 85, he married Mary Bucholtz and continued to live in Thousand Oaks, California until his death.
John served in various capacities in the many Lutheran Churches he attended over the years; as elder, financial secretary, etc. Those churches include Van Nuys First Lutheran, Redeemer Lutheran in Thousand Oaks, St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Myrtle Creek, Oregon; Peace Lutheran Church, Thousand Oaks, California. At his death, he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Thousand Oaks, California.
He was a member of the District Council of Carpenters local union no, 150. He retired from this work after 25 years.
He is survived by his two boys, Jerry Burkhardt and his wife Linda from Thousand Oaks, California, and son Joe Burkhardt and his wife Marsha from Beaverton, Oregon. In addition, he is survived by eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The Christian funeral for John Burkhardt will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2013, 2 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, (California Lutheran University Campus) Thousand Oaks, California.
