My fond memories of Uncle Joe go back over forty years. My own Dad told all of us kids stories about how Joe did amazing things.  How, as a child growing up in Chicago, Joe built a primitive TV all by himself.  Or how Joe engaged in complicated and politiclaly sensitive business transactions in world hot spots. My own memories include Uncle Joe as the beaming uncle at our Bar Mitzvahs, and as the proud owner of the cool Malibu house.  But perhaps my most poignant memory is the most recent -- when, just in the past year or so, he agreed to let our then high-school aged daughter interview him for a paper she was writing.  The assignment was to interview someone about their wartime experience.  Uncle Joe graciously spent unlimited time describing his experience at sea, the ship he was on, what wartime on a ship was like, and how it impacted him.  He sent articles and links to wiki-pages, and followed up to make sure he had conveyed all the information our daughter might need.  I think he really enjoyed remembering that time!  He gave a precious gift of himself to our daughter, one that she will never forget, and thus one that will live on for many, many years to come.

My condolences to all of Joe's family and in particular my Aunt Karen.  Joe had a long and interesting life, really enjoyed his stories in particular from his time in the Military.   Such a hard working an industrious person all his life. Blessed to have known him.
