Judith Steuer Hearst

Judith Steuer Hearst, of Hidden Hills, California, passed away on October 22, 2026, at UCLA West Valley Medical Center in West Hills, CA. She was 88. Born on 12/27/1937 in New Orleans, Louisiana, Judith was the daughter of Daniel and Goldie Steuer.

After graduating from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA, Judith continued her studies at The Art Institute of Chicago and went on to work as an artist for 60 years, painting with oils. Her enduring devotion to her craft was evident in a lifetime of work shared with others—exhibited in many galleries and at the Old Town Art Fair in Chicago. Beyond the studio, she was known for her lifelong love of gardening, and cooking, needlepoint and support for animal welfare organizations, she will be remembered as a beloved presence in the lives of those who knew her.

Judith is survived by her sons, Jack Hearst and Stephen Hearst; her daughter, Gillian Hearst; her daughters-in-law, Allison Hearst and Julieanne Hearst; her grandchildren, Jacqueline Hearst, Laura Hearst, Katie Hearst, and Drew Hearst; her sister-in-law, Peggy Steuer; her niece, Amy Dickstein; and her nephew, Philip Steuer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Hearst, and her brother, Robert Steuer.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to ASPCA and the Humane Society.
