Born in England in 1935, Kathleen was a child prodigy whose exceptional talent and passion for classical music and the culinary arts, defined an extraordinary life.
Kathleen’s musical gifts emerged early, earning her a prestigious National British Scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music in London. As a concert pianist, she enthralled audiences with her masterful performances, infusing each note with profound emotion and artistry. Her passion for classical music and entertaining were her defining talents.
Whilst at college in London, Kate met and later married Terry Nation, the acclaimed British television writer and author, famous for creating the iconic Daleks in the long-running TV series, "Doctor Who". Together, they built a vibrant life filled with laughter, creativity and joy, hosting legendary gatherings at their cherished country home in Lynsted, Kent. Their home became a haven for comedians, film stars, and luminaries of the entertainment world, drawn to both Kate and Terry's vivacious spirit and generosity. Kathleen’s charm and gregarious nature made her a beloved figure among their circle of friends and local community.
In her later years, Kate's greatest joy was her family. She enjoyed a close relationship with her two children, and was a loving, generous and devoted grandmother.
Kathleen is survived by her two children, Rebecca and Joel Nation, and her grandchildren, Max, James, and Julia, who will forever hold her memory dear. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Terry Nation, who passed away on March 9, 1997. Kate never remarried.
A private family service was held to honor her life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to a children's charity of their choosing, reflecting a cause very close to Kate and Terry's hearts.
Kate's legacy as a musician, devoted family member, and creative soul will continue to resonate with all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be profoundly missed but forever remembered.
