Kay Dale McMorran passed away peacefully on Monday, September 9, 2024, surrounded by family. She was 96 years old. Since 2022, she had been in the loving care of the wonderful staff at Silverado Memory Care, in Thousand Oaks.
Kay was born November 15, 1927, in Hattiesburg, MS, the youngest of six children of Thomas Price Dale and Lucy Emily McKenzie. She attended Mississippi University for Women where she studied English. She moved to Houston, TX in 1953, where she began work as a secretary and met her husband William (Bill) Trett McMorran. Kay and Bill were married on September 3, 1954, in Biloxi MS, and lived in Massachusetts before settling in Southern California in 1965. Kay retired in 1990 from Southern California Edison, where she worked as the secretary to the district manager.
Kay was a volunteer throughout her life and loved meeting members of the community through her work. Most recently she volunteered for the Thousand Oaks Library Foundation Store and the Goebel Adult Community Center. She also served on the Vestry of St. George’s Anglican Church of Ventura for many years.
Kay is survived by her children, son Thomas McMorran, daughter Elizabeth Schetina and sonin- law Gregory Schetina, son Andrew McMorran and daughter-in-law Anna Lisa des Prez, and her beloved grandchildren, Samuel Schetina and his wife Bridget Farrell, Catherine Schetina and her wife Emma Gavin, and Matthew Schetina and his partner Chloe Hood, and several nieces.
Kay leaves a legacy of love - love of family, of celebrations and gatherings, and of (often competitive) family card games. She will be remembered first and foremost for her kindness, openness and welcoming spirit. There was always a seat available at her dining room table.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Griffin Chapel with internment to follow. Donations may be made in her memory to The Thousand Oaks Library Foundation.
