Larry Fried of Simi Valley passed away peacefully on May 3, 2023 at the age of 75. He was born in 1947 and was raised in Encino, California. Larry graduated from Birmingham High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in business and a master’s degree in marketing from California State University, Northridge. He worked as a director of marketing for many years, including for Arrowhead Water, during which time he managed sponsorships of the 1984 Olympic Games and the Los Angeles Raiders. He later left corporate marketing and joined the family business managing real estate holdings in the San Fernando Valley and elsewhere in California.
Larry had a strong sense of civic pride. He co-authored a book on the history of the San Fernando Valley and was actively involved in many civic and community organizations, including the Simi Valley Planning Commission, Neighborhood Council, Leadership Simi Valley, Simi Valley Historical Society, Simi Sunrise Rotary, and Citizens for Safe and Scenic Simi Valley. He was a member of Stonebridge Community Church.
He is preceded in death by his father David and his mother Patricia.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 48 years, Kathy, son Erik (Amy) Fried, daughter Kara (Jay) Pierson, grandchildren Lilia Fried, Maia Fried, Reid Pierson, Luke Pierson, and sister Margie Fried.
The family is grateful to many nurses and caregivers, such as Irma, Jessica, Nelly, and others, for the care and compassion they showed Larry in his final days.
Larry will be remembered for his dedication to family and community, his amazing perseverance in the face of illness, his love of travel, and his irrepressible sense of humor. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Memorial Park on Monday May 22nd at 2:00pm, with interment to follow at the same location.
