Leif went by many names, "Roby", Leif, and the name given to him by his oldest granddaughter, "Augie". And, of course, Dad, Daddy, Pop, and Papa.
He was born and raised in Hollywood, graduating from Hollywood High, class of '35. Following high school he worked for his dad Henry in the family business.
World War II found him in the army, where he rose to the rank of captain. He was stationed in England, and there met his future bride and love of his life, Phyllis. He knew the moment he set eyes on her he would marry her. They were married 52 years and had three children.
He believed the good Lord directed his steps, leading him first to Phyllis, then after a successful career as a salesman in the wholesale plumbing industry, he courageously took a 2nd mortgage on his home, and with the help of Phyllis, launched Leif Ball Pipe & Supply in Canoga Park in 1963. Many questioned this venture and some predicted failure. He proved them wrong, eventually opening two more stores, in Westlake Village and Glendale.
Like the book's title, he was a part of "The Greatest Generation"; a man who was highly principled, loved his country, loved to work and play, a good husband and father, grandfather, great-grandfather. A man with a natural wit, with many friends, a delight to all who knew him. And, like the men of that generation, tough and strong.
His positive ways and his love and dedication to his family will be missed.
Dad, we know you will keep everyone under control in heaven.
Survived by children: Leif, (Carol), Pauline (Chris Hurst), and Mary (Monte Parsons); Grandchildren: Kimberley (Morton), Amy (Carter), Sara (Maclean), Natalie Ball, Marina (Wilson), Micah Parsons, Rachel (Ledebur) and David Hurst; and
