The heart and matriarch of her family, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and cherished friend, Mahindoght Mimi Firouzbakhsh passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, in Los Angeles, California, surrounded by the family she loved so deeply. She was 93.
Born on September 25, 1932, in Tehran, Iran, to Alinaghi and Khorshid, Mahindoght lived a life defined by compassion, resilience, elegance, and a deep commitment to caring for others.
In Iran, she devoted her professional life to public service through her work with UNICEF in Maternal and Child Health, helping improve the wellbeing of mothers and children. Supporting others—whether family, friends, or those in need—was not simply something she did, but a reflection of who she was.
After the Iranian Revolution of 1979, Mahindoght courageously began a new chapter abroad. She first lived in Nice in the south of France and later in Brussels, Belgium, before immigrating to the United States in 1989. She made her home in Kirkland, Washington, where she lived for more than two decades before moving to West Hills, California in 2015.
Wherever life took her, Mahindoght created community. A true social butterfly, she had a remarkable gift for bringing people together. Her home was often filled with friends, family, lively conversations, and joyful celebrations. She especially loved marking special occasions—above all the Persian New Year, Nowruz, and Christmas—which she celebrated with enthusiasm and warmth. She also took great joy in helping others organize important life events, offering guidance, encouragement, and her natural flair for making gatherings meaningful and memorable.
Known for her natural glamour and elegance, Mahindoght carried herself with grace and confidence. Beneath that sophistication was a deeply loyal heart. She stood by those she loved with unwavering devotion. To her nieces and nephews she was far more than an aunt—she was a trusted confidante and a dear friend who shared in their lives with genuine warmth and affection.
Within her family, she set the standard for integrity, generosity, loyalty, and compassion. Her strength, wisdom, and example shaped the family she held together so closely.
Mahindoght also possessed a creative spirit. She wrote poetry, enjoyed coloring, and found great peace in nature and in the company of animals. Yet nothing brought her greater happiness than time spent with the people she loved.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Djavad Djourabchi.
She is survived by her four children: Fariba Mofidian, Fariborz Mofidian, Farinaz Mofidian, and Fedra Djourabchi; five grandchildren—Fojan Khatiri, Chebli Dorostian, Shadi Dorostian, Nathan Mofidian, and Zachary Mofidian; and two great-grandchildren, Darius and Deva Giammorcaro.
Mahindoght leaves behind a legacy of strength, generosity, laughter, and enduring love. Her spirit lives on in the family she guided, the friendships she cherished, and the many lives she uplifted throughout her remarkable life.
“Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes.
Because for those who love with heart and soul, there is no separation.”
— Jalal ad-Din Rumi
