Dr. Manouchehr Shahab

Dr. Manouchehr Shahab of Woodland Hills, CA passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at 11:03 pm at the age of 99. He was born on May 5, 1927 in Nahavand, Iran to Morteza Shahab Soltan and Malakzadeh. He was one of 18 siblings and was the 11th child born in the family. Manouchehr came to America in 1947 and graduated from University of Colorado Boulder in 1957 with a PhD in organic chemistry. He then went on to complete a post-doctoral program at Notre Dame University and Caltech. After completing his studies, he went back to Iran and worked at the National Iranian Oil Company as head of research and development. While in Iran, he met the love of his life Kita Tabari in 1967 at a university gathering. They were married on March 14, 1968. Manouchehr and Kita settled in America in 1982 living in Pasadena for 7 years before settling in Woodland Hills. He taught chemistry at UCLA and retired in 1985. He then went on to teach at both Pierce College Valley College until 2015.

While Manouchehr was an accomplished doctor and teacher, he also enjoyed travelling with Kita and their friends and family. In their 58 years of marriage, they travelled to countless countries visiting all but one continent. They also spent countless holidays and vacations in Northern California with Kita’s family and her siblings, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. As Manouchehr was one of 18 children, he had well over 100 nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who enjoyed many Nowruz celebrations over the years as well as weekend gatherings swimming at their home. Manouchehr’s pastimes were reading, walking around Calabasas Lake and the Calabasas Commons and telling countless stories about he and Kita’s travels as well as historical stories about both America and Iran.

Manouchehr lived a life filled with love, surrounded by friends and family. The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts during this time.
