Margaret passed away on August 17, 2013 at the age of 100 years and 5 months, after a brief illness. Born in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico she came to the United States in 1923 and later became an American citizen. Margaret never failed to vote—Democratic—in every election. She was a homemaker for 77 years and loved to bake, cook, and entertain family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene in 1994; her mother, Teódola Zardeneta; and her younger sister Connie Burton. She is survived by her daughter, Roberta McFarland (Scott); grandchildren Kenneth and Christina McFarland, and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Consuelo (Connie) and nephew Andrew Sotelo; brother Robert and niece Michelle Cabanillas; devoted niece Lillian Arellano Moss (Robert) and godson Ralph Moss; many nieces and nephews, loyal caregiver Emilie Peters, and many good friends and neighbors. She was much loved and will be missed by all.
Deep appreciation goes to the loving staff of West Hills Home Care for their wonderful care and support to Margaret during the last 15 months of her life.
