She was born to Sam and Louise Asadurian on January 4, 1930 in Fresno, California. With her brothers and sisters, Sam, Manny, Dolly and Gladys, she grew up in Los Angeles and later moved with her family to Van Nuys. During her first marriage to Barson Shakarian in 1946, she was blessed with three loving daughters: Linda, Rosalyn and Marilyn.
Having helped her sister Dolly at her hot dog stand in Canoga Park, Marilyn also loved her job at the Smoke House Restaurant in Encino, where she was known as the hostess with “lots of class.” She later worked again for Dolly and her husband, Don Goodrow, at their Hillside Rubbish company, securing new clients. She made an impression with her unforgettable red hair.
During that time, Marilyn met her devoted husband of fifty years, Paul Burmaster, whom she married in August, 1970. With his three sons, Russell, Roger and Christopher, they began their own version of the Brady Bunch, creating a wonderful, expanded family. She then started working at Bundy’s Lock and Key in West Los Angeles, growing her husband Paul’s business over the decades. Throughout their marriage, they would enjoy many adventures and travels together, especially to Europe.
While Marilyn was known to be quite feisty, telling it “like it is,” she was also very kind-hearted, helping anyone who needed it. She loved the Lord and read the Bible often. Always gardening, she adored her roses, and may have missed her calling as a landscape designer. She also loved to sing and dance, her favorite song was “New York, New York”.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Paul of Agoura Hills; daughters Linda, Rosalyn (Lenny), and Marilyn; grandchildren Tom, Ron (Suzanne), Holly (Anthony), and Kyle; and great-grandchildren Samuel and James. She will also be missed by her sister Gladys, as well as her many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved very much.
Also remembering her with love are Paul’s sons Russell (Laura), Roger (Janice), and Christopher (Sheryl); grandchildren Janelle , Michael, Sarah and Heather; great-grandchildren Eric and Dominic.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, February 5, at Oakwood Memorial Park, 22601 Lassen Street, Chatsworth, California. Graveside service only.
