Mary Pearl Fabos, 87, passed away peacefully at her home in Oak Park, CA on November 21, 2018. Her loving heart will be greatly missed.
Mary was born on November 15, 1931 in Toledo, Ohio to John and Mary Vasko and was big sister to John J. Vasko (1936-2001). She graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1949 and married Emery Joseph "Jim" Fabos on May 2, 1953 at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Toledo. After Jim's death in 1973, Mary devoted herself to raising their four children - Mary Catherine (Jim) Goodwin (1954-2011); Suzanna of Thousand Oaks, CA; James Emery (Deborah Manthey) of Tehachapi, CA; and Stephen Joseph (Kathy Pytlinski) of Toledo. In addition to her three children, Mary is survived by grandchildren Melissa Katherine (Sean) Stephens, James Allen Fabos, Nicole Marie Fabos, and Stephanie Fabos; great-grandsons Sean Michael Stephens, Noah Fabos and Mason Fabos; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary managed a toy store in Toledo for many years before moving to Oak Park in 1997 and becoming an active member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church. She was dedicated to serving the homeless and spent many hours making rosaries to encourage others to join her in devotion to the Blessed Mother. In 2009, she received an award from Catholic Charities for her good works. Mary had an artistic streak and enjoyed all sorts of handcrafts, especially quilting. She had a sharp mind to the end, working jigsaw and Sudoko puzzles, enjoying game shows and British mysteries on TV, and debating current events.
Visitation will be at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks, 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village from 6 pm to 9 pm on Monday December 3rd, with a Rosary at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Maximilian Kolbe, 5801 Kanan Road, Westlake Village at 10:30 am on Tuesday December 4th.
