March 23, 1954 – May 20, 2026
Mary Alyce Sepe, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, at the age of 72 in Thousand Oaks, California.
Mary was born on March 23, 1954, in Laeger, West Virginia, to Dorothy and Chester Mitchell. She grew up in Man, West Virginia, surrounded by her large family and the country life she always remembered fondly. Her father worked in the coal mines, and her mother worked in a hair salon, where Mary spent many days pretending to style hair herself. She also loved summers spent playing and exploring on the family farm in Bluefield, West Virginia.
Mary was one of seven siblings: Jim, Nancy, Doris, Theresa, Mike “Sam,” and Cindy. She was preceded in death by several of her brothers and sisters and is survived by her brother Sam and sister Cindy.
As a teenager, Mary moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where she hoped to become a nurse and worked for a podiatrist. When her sisters Kate and Nancy moved to California, Mary followed, beginning the next chapter of her life.
In California, she met the love of her life, Albert, at a pool hall owned by her sister Kate’s husband, Fred. They fell in love and built a lively, memorable life together. They enjoyed horse racing, trips to Del Mar and Lake Tahoe, evenings at the Magic Castle, and exploring the restaurants and nightlife of Los Angeles while living in Studio City.
When they were ready to settle down, Mary and Albert moved to Agoura Hills and started their family. They welcomed their son, Michael, in 1977, followed five and a half years later by their daughter, Marissa. Mary took great pride in her children, volunteering at their schools, supporting their activities, and always cheering them on. Golf became a special family tradition, leading to many memorable rounds and trips together.
Mary loved music, especially classic rock. David Bowie, Pink Floyd, and Prince were among her favorites, and music was often playing wherever she was. She also had a natural eye for interior design and decorating, a love of antiques, and a gift for making every home feel warm and beautiful.
Cooking was another way Mary brought people together. She cherished the Southern dishes of her West Virginia childhood and became an exceptional Italian cook with the guidance of her beloved mother-in-law, Assunta “Susie.” Family and friends were always happy to gather around her table, and she passed her love of cooking on to both of her children.
Mary had a special love for animals, especially dogs and, in particular, Akitas. Her treasured companion, Asake, brought her great comfort and happiness.
She was a proud grandmother to Dominick, Luciano, and Belle, who brought tremendous joy to her life. She treasured the time she spent with them and loved watching them grow.
Mary is survived by her son Michael and his spouse Donna; her daughter Marissa and her spouse Nicholas; her grandchildren, Dominick, Luciano, and Belle; her brother Sam; her sister Cindy; and many family members and friends who will remember her strength, humor, warmth, and tenacity.
Her memory will live on in family gatherings, rounds of golf, classic rock songs, cherished recipes, and the many stories shared by those who loved her.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever remembered.
