Maurine Mae Ford was loved by everyone she met. To know Maurine was to love her you just could not help yourself. No one was ever a stranger to her just a friend she had not’t met.. Maurine was generous to a fault. If you needed it she would give you the shirt off of her back. Actually if you wanted the shirt off of her back you got it. She felt pity for anyone who was down and out and would reach out to help them. Maurine had a wonderful sense of humor and style. She was a gracious soul who found the best in everyone.
Maurine was born Jan 27, 1924. She grew up on Venice beach and loved to tell of the wonderful times she had there as a child. The first thing she did when she got up in the morning was take a dip in the Pacific. Maurine’s childhood ended much earlier than most young girls because she became a mother. Maurine brought into the world 5 sons and 2 daughters. She had the comfort of having 5 of those 7 children at her bedside the last few days of her life along with the love of her life her husband Gary. Maurine’s children called her Mom and loved her very much. Their memories of her are so many it would take a book to recount. The short version is she was loving, caring and supportive of whatever they did in life. She brought comfort to their hearts and was always there when they needed her. They learned from her how to be strong and courageous. They all treasure the yearly get together Maurine would have with her children. Every event was an adventure. Her children have said she taught them to laugh and to live every minute like it was the last. Their mom was a shoulder to cry and had a warm hand to hold. Everyone was at home in Maurine’s presence. She had the uncanny ability to warm a room and make everyone feel special and welcome. Maurine loved fine food, wine and fashion. Most importantly she loved Jehovah.
Anyone who really knew her can tell you about the fascinating stories Maurine would share about her 86 years of life.
Maurine by no means had an easy life for her first 45 years but to hear her tell it they were interesting years. When Maurine first started to study with Jehovah’s Witnesses the person who studied with her was Violet Ford, Gary’s mother. Gary was 2 years old and sat on the floor of her house while they studied. Little did anyone know that one day that little boy would become her husband. Maurine has been around the Ford family since 1952 and they all loved her. Maurine’s sister in law Donna says she has lost her friend, her sister and her part time mother all on the same day.. Gary and Maurine got married in 1969. They both had new goals and priorities. Gary was 18 and she was 45. As they say they were the summer and autumn marriage. That difference never mattered to Maurine she was so young at heart. Her mother in law told her not to worry about Gary being so young because her sons age fast. So Maurine stuck with him and waited for him to age. Maurine was happy to point out after they had been married for 20 years they were now the same age. And she was right! She was Gary's wife,,, lover and best friend he adored every little essence of her soul from her head to her toes he loved every inch.
Maurine stayed young at heart until her body came under attack 5 years ago and then it became a challenge for her to hold onto that youthful spirit. With her UNIE-UNIE she still blistered through the mall and had fun doing it.
Often on a tombstone you will see the date of birth and the date of their death. From the beginning to the end of someones life with a dash between those years. What really matters most of all is the dash between those years. For the dash represents all the time we spent alive on this earth. Now only those of us who loved Maurine know what her little dash is worth. It matters not how much we own, the cars, the home and cash. What matters is how we’ lived and the love we’ shown to others to measure what our dash.was worth. Maurine dash was full of love and kindness .
Maurine went to her rest on March 24, 2010 In her husband's arm's and her children by her bedside with lots of kisses and words of LOVE.
How fortunate we all have been to know her and have her in our lives. She will live in our memories and the spirit of her essence will always be with us. She was truly remarkable. We love you Maurine hugs and kisses from all of your family and friends.
