Ojai
My loving husband of 61 years and father of our four daughters passed away suddenly Monday, March 25, 2013 at the age of 81.
Mel was born April 15, 1931 in Belvidere, IL. He married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Mae Yunek, in Oct. 1951. Mel proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After many years in the aerospace industry, our family settled in Newbury Park, CA in 1969 where we lived for 26 years. After 10 years in Pahrump, NV, we returned to Ojai, CA.
Over the years Mel enthusiastically enjoyed motorcycle riding, camping, and four wheeling with family and friends. He also enjoyed mechanical challenges, and had the gift and ability to fix just about anything. Along with his easy laugh, bright blue eyes, and sweet smile, he touched everyone’s hearts and will be missed.
Mel is preceded in death by his daughter Donna Lee (Spoehr) Tognetti. He is survived by his wife Marilyn Summers, daughters Deborah Adams (Steven, his son-in-law and best friend), Denise Morrison, and Diane Summers; five grandchildren, Wesley Spoehr, Sarah Spoehr, Eric Morrison, Danielle Morrison, Amanda Tognetti; great granddaughter Bella Donna Spoehr; his sister Shirley Harding of Syracuse, IN, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Our family wishes to express our deepest appreciation and gratitude to his loving caregivers Chona, Maria, and Jose.
Private graveside services will be held at Pierce Brothers Memorial Park in Westlake Village, CA with Pastor Bruce Kitabjian officiating.
Mel’s memory can be honored with a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association: www.alz.org.
