Born on the South Side of Chicago, Michael attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, where he met his
beautiful wife, Joyce. After graduation, Michael and Joyce moved to Los Angeles for his work with the A. C. Nielsen
Company, beginning a new chapter of their lives together. He later built an extensive career in banking, working for
American Savings Bank and American Pacific State Bank, before bringing his talents in owning his own real estate
and construction company. Michael excelled in each of his professional endeavors, embracing new challenges and
finding satisfaction in learning different crafts and developing new skills.
A man of remarkable intelligence and a generous heart, Michael paired his lifelong curiosity with a genuine desire to
help others. He could spend hours immersed in research, determined to find the right answer, not simply for the
satisfaction of knowing, but also for the opportunity to help someone else. A natural caretaker, he consistently placed
the needs of others before his own. His compassion, love of laughter, and appreciation for life’s simple pleasures were
at the heart of who he was.
For many years, Michael shared his passion for soccer as a referee, bringing a deep appreciation for the beauty and
strategy of the game to his time on the field. Away from the field, he found joy in the familiar comforts of good food,
an exciting card game, and the company of the people he loved.
Cooking was one of Michael’s favorite ways to care for others. He enjoyed exploring new recipes while faithfully
preserving cherished family favorites. Preparing an excellent meal brought him immense joy, as did the chance to
gather loved ones around the table to share stories and enjoy one another’s company.
That love of togetherness extended to the card table, where Michael spent countless memorable days playing poker
with friends, sharing stories and laughter. He also treasured games of Euchre with his family. His sharp skills and
natural warmth made him the partner everyone wanted, and the time spent together meant as much to him as the game
itself.
Michael was also an extraordinary gift giver, spending months thoughtfully curating the perfect gifts for his loved
ones. His creativity extended beyond the gifts themselves, as he constructed elaborate clues for recipients to ponder
as they tried to guess what was inside each package. These carefully crafted clues made opening a gift an experience
all its own, filled with anticipation and discovery. Each gift reflected his thoughtfulness, his playful spirit, and the
time and care he devoted to the people he loved.
Above all, Michael cherished his family. Whether preparing a favorite meal, dealing a hand of cards, selecting a
meaningful gift, or simply spending time together, he expressed his love through the attention and care he gave so
naturally.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Sellers (née Moyer); his son, Benjamin Sellers, and his wife, Ani; and
his daughter, Emily Parton (née Sellers), and her husband, Cameron. He was the proud and loving grandfather of three
granddaughters, Abigail, Grace, and Madelyn.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on October 17, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of
Westlake Village, located at 1049 S. Westlake Blvd., Westlake Village, CA 91361.
