Nancy was born on August 6th, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa to Carmelia (Fusaro) Formaro and Phillip Formaro. Nancy was the middle sister to Sue Maro and Rosanne Chandlee. She graduated from East High School in Des Moines, Iowa in 1952. In high school she was a superior student and enjoyed participating in school variety shows. She began singing opera and even performed for family and friends at weddings and special events. Nancy continued performing through college where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from San Fernando Valley State College, with a concentration in Elementary Education.
Upon graduating from college, Nancy began her teaching career in the Conejo Valley Unified School District. Her career spanned 36 years of teaching at Westlake Elementary School from 1960 through 1996. Nancy continued to serve as a tutor and substitute teacher even in her “retirement years”, as teaching was her true love. During her career as a teacher, she was able to impact the lives of so many young students. She loved them and they loved her. She has maintained relationships with many of her students that continue today. All of Nancy’s students were considered “family” to her.
Nancy shared most of her life with her dear sister Sue in California where they shared a home. Nancy possessed a wonderful sense of humor, loved music, travel, and cooking Italian food, but mostly teaching! Nancy was kind and gentle to all she met. She will be greatly missed. Nancy is survived by her sisters Sue Maro and Rosanne (Formaro) Chandlee; her 2 nephews Mark (Liz) Chandlee and Steve (Lydia) Chandlee; her great nephews Ryan, Adam, Joseph, Vincent , Luke; her great Niece Magdalena and her great- great nephews Christopher and Nicholas and her great, great niece Josie.
