Neil Oscar Bordofsky

Neil Oscar Bordofsky, 81, of Newbury Park, California, passed away on September 21, 2026. Neil was born on May 26, 1945, in the Bronx, New York, to Martin and Millie Bordofsky. He grew up in California's San Fernando Valley, where he would spend much of his life.

On November 18, 1967, Neil married Carolyn, beginning a marriage that would span nearly 59 years. Together they raised three children, Adrianne, Erin, and Matthew, and watched their family grow to include six grandchildren: Ben, Sadie, Jake, Zoe, Martin, and Jonah, who knew and loved him as Papa.

Neil was a proud member of the United States Army, and his service remained an important part of who he was throughout his life.

Professionally, Neil spent 20 years with Allstate Insurance, but his real passion was cooking. He attended professional cooking school and found countless ways to put that passion to use. Over the years, he ran kitchens at summer camps, cooked for large events, and could regularly be found in the kitchen for Thursday night bingo. For Neil, cooking was about more than preparing food - it was one of the ways he brought people together.

Neil also devoted 20 years as a volunteer docent at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, generously giving his time to something he greatly enjoyed.

Neil was funny, loyal, and, as anyone who knew him well could attest, more than a little stubborn. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was the kind of friend who would do anything for someone he cared about. If you were Neil's friend, you knew you could count on him.

He loved photography, cruises, cooking for others, and settling in to watch Jeopardy! He also took birthdays and holidays very seriously. They were occasions to be celebrated properly, and Neil would go out of his way to make them special and memorable for the people he loved. Whether through a meal, a celebration, or simply the effort he put into making the day matter, Neil had a way of showing his family just how important they were to him.

Neil is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his children, Adrianne and her husband, Avi, Erin and her husband, Mark, and Matthew and his wife, Ana; his six grandchildren, Ben, Sadie, Jake, Zoe, Martin, and Jonah; and his brother, Steve. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Millie, and his brother, Barry, who passed away in 1989.

Above all, Neil loved his family and the life he and Carolyn built together over nearly six decades. He was a devoted husband and father, a beloved Papa, a proud veteran, a cook, a volunteer, and a fiercely loyal friend. His family will remember his humor, his stubborn streak, the meals he prepared, the celebrations he created, and the countless ways - large and small - that he showed up for the people he loved.
