

PAUL VINCENT SLAGIS
We are so very sad to announce the passing of our loved one, Paul Vincent Slagis who died on July 5th, 2023 at his home is Westlake Village, CA. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and his laughter, love and support will be extremely missed.
Paul was born in Scranton Pennsylvania to Adele and Vincent Slagis on July 28th, 1941. He moved from Scranton to Syracuse New York where his father taught him and his siblings to swim in the lovely Finger Lakes.
From Syracuse he moved with his family to Burbank, Ca where he lived through Junior High School. From Burbank the family moved to Tujunga, CA where Paul graduated from Verdugo Hills High School. Paul attended Glendale Junior College and transferred to San Jose State where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Biology.
Paul worked many jobs to earn money for school including ambulance driving and setting up venues for the Monterey Pop Festival.
After college Paul went to work for Glendale Community Hospital in their laboratory preforming chemistry tests and earned his Medical Laboratory License.
Paul went to work at Panorama Memorial Hospital in their Special Procedure Laboratory where he met his wife, Candace, who worked in the Medical Records Office. They married on February 14, 1970, and moved to Culver City and then to Chatsworth where they had their first daughter.
After the Sylmar earthquake in 1971, they moved to San Clemente where Paul became Chief Tech at Mission Community Hospital and helped set up new hospital laboratories in the nearby area. They bought their first house in Mission Viejo and had their second daughter.
After working in the hospital environment for many years Paul decided to take a job selling Medical Chemistry Equipment and move to Newbury Park, California where they bought their second home.
Paul continued to work at several different companies selling medical equipment and then took a job selling veterinary equipment before he retired in July of 2013.
They lived in San Diego for a year and then moved to Westlake Village, CA where he lived for 9 years.
Paul enjoyed working with wood, making frames and Adirondack chairs. Watercolor painting, making pizza from scratch, growing peppers and making jerky for his dog and family. Paul took sailing lessons and had a small sailing boat which he enjoyed sailing in Mission Bay, San Diego. He took flying lessons in Camarillo and earned his solo flight license.
Paul also took scuba diving lessons and his greatest adventure was in the Cayman Islands swimming with and feeding the Manna Rays.
He enjoyed his yoga classes, Tai Chi classes and riding his bike around the lake and spending time with his grandchildren, who he adored.
Paul is survived by his wife Candace, daughter Heather Trifiro and her husband Jeff and their children Roxi and Vinny from Newbury Park, CA and by his daughter Shannon Rhode and her husband Adam from Boise, ID. His brother Dr. Scott Slagis and his wife Tamara and their children from Tucson AZ.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The National Multiple Sclerosis Foundation or The Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles would be appreciated.
