Colonel Raymond Arthur O’Grady
USAF Reserve Colonel Ray O’Grady was born on May 22, 1933 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He passed on February 5, 2020 in Roseville, California at the age of 86. He graduated from St. Thomas Military Academy in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1951 and then the University of Minnesota in 1955. He entered the United States Air Force through the ROTC Program. Ray also received a Master of Arts (MA) degree from Pepperdine University in 1975. Raymond was a loving husband to Carol for 56 years before her passing in 2009, and a loving and patient father to his three sons Michael, Daniel and Joseph. He also had five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Ray was born to Adelaide and Arthur O’Grady both departed, as is his brother Jim O’Grady, and is survived by his brother, Dennis O’Grady, of Apple Valley, Minnesota.
Ray brought his family with him to Washington, the Philippines, Spain, Montana, Missouri, and Alaska and completed his 30-year Air Force career in Hawaii. He worked for SDC/Unisys as a Program Manager, and joined the Thousand Oaks Police Department as a Volunteer in Policing (VIP) for twelve years followed by a rewarding stint as a volunteer with the Ventura County Fire Department. Ray was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, loved the Minnesota Vikings, and his cats, Cleo and Gracie.
A Vigil will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 from 5 to 9 pm with a Rosary at 7 pm at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Memorial Park and Mortuary located at 5600 Lindero Canyon Road in Westlake Village, California. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 10 am at St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church located at 2475 Borchard Road in Newbury Park, California, with the burial to follow at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Cemetery.
