With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Corporal Richard Bernard Newkirk, a proud U.S. Marine, devoted family man, and beloved friend, who passed away on August 18,2025, at the age of 73.
Born on July 30,1952, in Lackawanna, New York, Richard lived a life marked by honor, service, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. His service to his country as a marine was a source of immense pride- not just for him, but for all who knew and loved him. He carried his values of duty, discipline, and loyalty into every area of his life. His courage in uniform was matched only his kindness, humility, and strength as a husband, father, grandfather and friend. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, compassion, and the enduring values and love.
Though a man of few words, his presence spoke volumes. He had a quiet strength and a deep emotional intelligence that made you feel truly seen in his company. His humility never overshadowed his strength, and his laughter often echoed louder than his words. It wasn't unusual to find yourself smiling long after a brief conversation with him- not because he said much, but because he made you feel something real.
With a twinkle in his eye and the perfect prank or joy always at the ready. Richard lit up the room with his innocent vivacity and quick witted one liners. His laughter was contagious, his timing was impeccable, and his ability to make other feel joy was one of his greatest gifts.
Above all, he was devoted to his country, his family and his animals who meant the worlds to him and brought him endless joy. Whether in the quiet moments of his daily life or during life's greatest milestone, he was our steadfast protector, our confidant, our leader, and the greatest gift who will live on in our hearts and our memories forever.
