Robert E. (Bob) Beaty, 89, of Thousand Oaks, California, lost his battle with Alzheimers and complications from pneumonia and sepsis on March 18, 2017 at Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Suzy Myers Beaty; his children Mark and Kim; his grandchildren Libby, Tommy and Ryan; his sons-in-law Ruben and Tom; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives living across the U.S. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Sam and Tom; his half-brother Bryce Kitchens and his half-sister Ireda Kitchens.
Bob was born to Sam Porter and Robbie Floyd Kitchens Beaty in Senatobia, Mississippi. After serving in the U.S. Navy during WW II, he graduated from Northwest Mississippi Community College where he earned a degree in business. He began his working life in insurance in Texas before joining his brothers in California to begin a lifelong love of automobile sales. He started in the automotive business at Eddie Hopper Chevrolet in Orange County and later moved to Thousand Oaks in 1975 to become a managing partner at Kemp Ford. He was awarded the Ford Franchise in Simi Valley in 1981 and opened Bob Beaty Ford a year later. For the next 20 years, he built a successful business for himself and his family, serving customers throughout Simi Valley and its surrounding communities, truly enjoying the relationships he established with his employees and his customers. His dedication, strong work ethic, and friendly manner were instrumental to his success. Due to his hard work and that of his employees, Bob's dealership won many sales contests that afforded him and Suzy many opportunities for travel around the world. Bob also won several trips to Waterfall, Alaska, a place that became one of his favorite fishing spots.
Bob was an avid sportsman, having grown up hunting and fishing, and later became an accomplished golfer. He was a long-time member of both North Ranch and Indian Wells Country Clubs where he participated in the Bob Hope Desert Classic for more than 10 years, an event that raises funds for the Eisenhower Medical Center and other local charities around Indian Wells, California. A memorial service has been planned for 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 29th, at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, located at 588 Camino Manzanas, Thousand Oaks. Lunch will follow at the church.
