Bob Fassl passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025 at the age of 89. As a loving son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he set the gold standard to each of these titles.
Bob entered this world in Chicago, IL on Aug. 13, 1935, to Louise and Frank Fassl, the middle of five loving children: Mary, Frank, Dorothy, and John. Bob was an honor student and valedictorian while attending Saint Rita High School and soon found himself climbing the ladder as a sales clerk within the printing industry. At 22 years old in 1957, his life’s destiny changed forever. It was then that he met and fell in love with a gorgeous and vibrant young lady who worked in the same office building, Alice Beverly Thews. However, their courtship was interrupted soon after when Bob was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he spent the majority of his two years in South Korea. But they nurtured and maintained their devotion to each other throughout. From May 1958 to May 1960, over 1,000 letters of love were exchanged between the two while Bob was deployed, serving as a beautiful chronicle of their devotion. Not long after Bob returned to Chicago, they married on July 2nd, 1960. They then embarked upon the journey of parenthood, spending their next 30 years as the most dedicated, loving mother and father any child could hope for. Robert, Michael, Edward, Lisa and William were born in the span of nine years. After a series of moves, they eventually settled in Westlake Village in Southern California, to the delight of their kids. As a father, Bob threw his entire being into his family. He and Alice were extremely active volunteers, especially with all of the many sports programs that their kids were involved in. Bob coached basketball and track, dedicating countless hours to many kids beyond his own. When he wasn’t on the sidelines, or chauffeuring his kids to and from games and practices, he and Alice were in the bleachers cheering them on.
Bob had an infectious good nature, honesty and integrity, at home and on his job as a sundries salesman in the garment industry, and was beloved and respected by the many people he worked with. In 1986, Bob started his own sales agency, BLT Sales, which he ran for 16 years until his retirement in 2001. He parlayed 100% of his success to his family, providing a happy, loving and nurturing home life with Alice and their five kids.
Bob was a very pragmatic but open-minded man who raised his children to be responsible and to follow their individual interests, while at the same time being respectful and empathetic to others.
Upon his retirement in 2001, Bob delved into the joy of being a full time husband and grandpa. His children provided him with nine grandkids: Kyle, Jenna, Travis, Stephen, Emily, Samantha, Frank, Nicholas and Hayley, and reveled in the joy of watching them grow into adulthood. As well, he and Alice spent their time travelling and enjoying get-togethers with a multitude of friends. He taught catechism at St. Jude’s Church, volunteered as a teacher’s assistant at Conejo Valley Elementary School, enjoyed bowling, hiking, the beach and spending time with friends and an ever-growing family. He was a voracious reader, was a lover of sports, music, movies, art and beauty wherever it existed. He truly enjoyed laughter and love. When Alice’s health began to wane, he became the most dedicated caregiver imaginable, devoting the majority of his time by her side until her passing in 2019. She was the absolute love of his life, the basis of a happy, secure and loving family, and that example carried forward to his children and many friends. Although he will be missed, he left a profound legacy. His heart still beats within everyone he touched.
Bob was preceded in death by his brother Frank (Pat) and sisters Mary (Fred Tucker) and Dorothy (John Ferrighetto) and is survived by his brother Johnny (Sue), children Bob (Lynne), Mike (Kim), Ed (Annie), Lisa (Tim Pfaadt) and Bill (Colette), his grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
A funeral service and memorial will be held at 10am on Friday March 14 at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Memorial Park Mortuary, 5600 Lindero Canyon Rd., Westlake Village, CA
