Rosa Martha Laux, 66, passed away on the twenty-fifth of July 2021 at her home in Newbury Park, CA. Martha was born in Sonora, Mexico, in 1955 to Frances Aguilar Melendrez and Guillermo Melendrez. She immigrated to the U.S. with her mother and two younger siblings in 1968 and lived in Temecula, CA. Martha graduated from Mark Keppel High School in Alhambra, CA in 1973 and received her Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, in Finance with a minor in French from California State University, LA in 1977. Upon graduation, she began her career in finance with ExxonMobil. She earned an MBA from USC in 1982, while continuing to work, and later became a CPA. For the last 10 years of her career, Martha worked as Controller/CFO for a U.S. subsidiary of a large international real estate investment firm.
Martha met the love of her life, and in 1987, she married and moved to Newbury Park where she soon started her family. Martha loved everything French. She became fluent in the language when she studied in Paris at the College of Sorbonne for a semester. She was an avid tennis player all her life and most recently played competitively in a women's league in the Thousand Oaks area. She was of deep faith and generously donated her time and money to many causes within and outside her church.
Martha was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, and most importantly to her, wife and mother. She made her husband and sons, and all her family, the center of her world. Martha touched her many friends from her work, neighborhood and tennis activities with her infectious personality and smile. Her kind and gentle soul was apparent in who she was and all she did.
Martha will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Martha was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 29 years, John
R. Laux. She is survived by her sons, John D. Laux and Andrew M. Laux; mother, Frances Melendrez, who lived with her; sister, Lourdes Del Frate and her husband Renzo Del Frate; brother, Jesse Melendrez and his wife Mary Melendrez.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, August 5, 2021, at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Mortuary, 5600 Lindero Canyon Rd, Westlake Village, CA 91362. Interment will follow immediately after the service. Due to location being in Los Angeles County, masks will be required.
