

Roy Alexander Hansen passed away peacefully on May 12, 2023, shortly after his 94th birthday. Roy was born in Los Angeles on May 6, 1929, the son of Henry Alexander Hansen and Hjordis Cecilia Wahlgren Hansen, both Norwegian immigrants. Roy and his sister Lucille were raised in Tucson, Arizona. After high school, Roy attended the University of Arizona, earning a degree in engineering. His entire professional career was in the aerospace industry, primarily at Litton Industries, working on guidance systems, until his retirement in 1994. Roy enjoyed traveling and hiking immensely. On one of his road trips in 1956, he met the love of his life, Martha Palmer, on a blind date. They got married on September 20, 1958. In 1965, they moved to Calabasas, California, where they lived for 56 years. Roy and Martha raised three children, Glenn, Bruce, and Joan. Roy was a tinker, continuously fixing things around the house, cars, and yard. Roy followed his boys into Boy Scouts, taking the role of Troup Leader, and leading the boys in camping, hiking, and backpacking adventures in the Sierra Nevada. Roy also took his family on camping adventures throughout the Southwest. Roy and Martha traveled the world together, including trips to Norway, Greece, Mexico, Guatemala, Peru, China, Egypt, Iran, and South Africa. Roy joined the Kiwanis Club, and was an active and enthusiastic member. Roy and Martha were longtime members of the Woodland Hills Community Church. As Martha’s health deteriorated, Roy became Martha's full-time caregiver as Martha’s health deteriorated. After she moved into assisted living, Roy visited her every single day until COVID hit. Roy was preceded in death by his wife Marth, his parents, and his sister Lucile. He is survived by his three children Glenn (Barbara) of Santa Clara, CA, Bruce (Korinna) of Madison, WI, and Joan Peterman (Jay) of Farmington, NM, and his four grandchildren Jacob Peterman (Tess), Zoe Hansen, Jarod Peterman, and Nicholas Hansen. A remembrance of his life will be held Friday, June 16 at 3:30 in Harter Hall at Woodland Hills Community Church, 21338 Dumetz Rd, Woodland Hills, CA.
