In September of 1966, 12-year old Sam and his family embarked on the most important trip of their lives, immigrating to the United States, where they ultimately settled in Chicago, Illinois. There, Sam attended Our Lady of Pompeii School, Saint Michael Central High School, where after graduation he went on to earn an Associates Arts Degree in Radiology Technology from Malcolm X College.
Early in his career Sam worked as a security guard at Cabrini Hospital in Chicago, where he met the love of his life, beautiful Susan Abrego, who worked in the records department. Sam found any reason he could to frequently make his way to records so he could connect with Susan, who time after time rejected his requests to go on a date. Sam, however was undeterred and ultimately got her to date. After two years of courtship, on August 26th 1979, Sam was rewarded for his persistence when he and Susan married.
Eventually, Sam and Susan relocated from Chicago to Southern California where Sam worked in various capacities until 1990 when he was hired as a Radiological Technician for the Veterans Hospital of North Hills, Sepulveda Ambulatory Care Center. Sam worked at this hospital for over 25 years until his recent passing. Together he and Susan shared 37 wonderful years, being blessed with three children, Don, Angelica, and Daniel.
Sam enjoyed a love of cooking, traveling, watching movies, and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his one and only love Susan, his children; Don Favia and daughter-in-law Rehab Favia, Angelica Favia and Daniel Favia, his grandchildren; Vincenzo and Danica, his sisters and brother, Angela Rappa, Rose Grasso and Michael Favia; other nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.
Our family grieves the loss of our beloved Sam, but we look forward to reuniting with him again in heaven where all tears will forever be done away with and we can have eternity to be together.
Thank you for honoring Sam and our family with your presence today.
Arrangements under the direction of Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Mortuary, Westlake Village, CA.
