

Selma Irene Feldman was born July 15th, 1927 in Los Angeles, California to Daniel and Hazel Jonas. When she was only 17 years old, she graduated from Dorsey High School and was accepted at the University of California, Los Angeles where she majored in Physical Education with an emphasis on Dance. Upon graduation in 1948, she married her high school sweetheart, Harold Feldman, and then began her career with her first job as the Recreation Director for the City of Los Angeles in the Wilmington District. During that time she became pregnant with their first child, Gregg Alan Feldman. Three years later, the family moved from Inglewood to their first home in Van Nuys, where Selma delivered her second child, Gayle Anne. Soon after that, their third child, Jill Patrice Feldman was born. In 1956, Selma and Harold, along with their three children, moved from Van Nuys to Woodland Hills. Selma delivered her fourth child, Dana Leigh Feldman in 1963. Not long after Dana was born, Selma decided to attend graduate school to obtain her Teaching Credential and Masters' Degree in Secondary Education. Upon graduation, she was hired by the Simi Vally School District as a Physical Education Teacher. Following that, Selma was employed by Los Angeles Unified School District where she remained for 26 years. starting first as a teacher in the Special Education Program and then retiring as Administrator to those very programs. She was instrumental in the development of the Head Start Program and additionally was quite involved with the Special Ed Olympics. Yet Selma was so much more than just her many accomplishments. She was a loving wife, mother, and friend. Her sweet loving nature and love of life touched everyone she met and her sense of humor, even when faced with the challenges of a major stroke, was always an inspiration. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her but her legacy will never be forgotten.
