Born in Des Moines, Iowa, Sue discovered her love and extraordinary talent for music at an early age. Her remarkable voice and natural ability as a performer soon opened the door to a career that would take her across the country and around the world. While still in Des Moines earlier in her career, Sue had her own radio show, establishing herself as a performer and entertainer in her hometown before embarking on a remarkable career that would span decades.
Sue went on to perform with many of the great big bands and musicians of her era. Much of her distinguished career was spent singing with Les Brown and His Band of Renown, where she became part of the rich tradition of big-band music that entertained audiences throughout the country and around the world. A lifelong devout Catholic, Sue's faith was an important and enduring part of her life. Her faith, family, music, and service to others remained guiding forces throughout her 96 years.
Although Sue spent much of her life traveling and performing, she was always deeply devoted to her family. When she was not on the road, she spent time helping her sister with her classes, working as her sister’s elementary school assistant. She found joy in being useful to others and was always willing to lend her time and talents to the people she loved.
Sue made California her home for over 75 years. She was blessed to have met so many kind neighbors and friends whom she considered family. These people helped to enrich Sue’s life to the fullest. Sue cherished each of these relationships.
