

He was born in Rochester, New York, and graduated from the University of Rochester in 1965. He began his career as an optics engineer at the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, NY and continued on government-related aerospace projects until his retirement.
Thomas was very active in his church throughout his life, including Church of the Epiphany in Gates, New York, Christ Church in Pittsford, New York, and later at The Church of the Epiphany in Oak Park, California. Tom and his family lived in Fairport, New York for 45 years among many wonderful and dear friends. In 2023 Tom, Ellen and Steve moved to Westlake Village, California to be nearer to the families of their sons, Mike and Brian.
He remained an avid Buffalo Bills fan and rekindled his love of baseball while rooting for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He enjoyed golfing, photography, and reading nonfiction, particularly historical. He was known for his curiosity, thoughtfulness, and quiet warmth.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Raymond Blum, and his brother, Richard Blum. He is survived by his wife, Ellen; his sons, Michael, Stephen, and Brian; his grandchildren, Miles, Ellie, Jack, and Stella; his brothers, James (Margaret) and John; his brother-in-law, Karl (Denise); and nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at The Church of the Epiphany in Oak Park, California, on February 15 at 2:00 PM, followed by a reception at the church. Interment will follow at the church columbarium.
