Weiya Wang

Weiya Wang, a beloved wife, mother, and esteemed medical researcher, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2026, surrounded by the warmth of her family. Born on February 18, 1957, in Hefei, Anhui, she was the cherished daughter of Ren Wang and Fuyun Zha. Her life was a testament to unwavering dedication, love, and the pursuit of knowledge.

Weiya's journey began in Anhui, China, where she developed a profound interest in the medical sciences. She pursued her passion by enrolling at Bangbu Medical College, from which she graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine. Her continued thirst for knowledge and commitment to her field led her to Nanjing Medical University, where she earned her Master’s Degree of Medical Science in 1989.

In July of 1983, Weiya married her devoted husband, Banghua Sun, in Anhui, China. Together, they forged a partnership that was both a source of strength and joy, spanning over 43 years. Their love story was enriched by the birth of their son, Steven Sun, whom they raised with great pride and affection. Weiya's family was the cornerstone of her life, and her love for them was evident in every action and decision she made.

In pursuit of greater opportunities and to further her career, Weiya and her family moved to the United States in 1992. Her professional journey was marked by dedication and excellence. She began as a Research Fellow at the City of Hope National Medical Center, where she worked for 7 years. Her contributions to medical research were significant and respected by her peers. This was followed by a successful 17 years of research working at Amgen Company, where she continued to make meaningful impacts and discoveries in her field until her retirement in 2017.

Weiya's legacy extends beyond her professional achievements; she is remembered for her kindness, compassion, and the profound connections she forged with those around her. Her gentle spirit and unwavering dedication to improving the lives of others left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving husband, Banghua Sun, and her cherished son, Steven Sun. Her family remains as a testament to the love and dedication she shared with all those around her and will always remember the ways she has shaped their lives.
