

Edward Henry Vas Nunes M.D. FASC of Huntington Beach, CA passed away on April 24, 2018 at 96 years of age, at his home. Edward was born on November 3, 1921 in Amsterdam, Holland, the son of Emanuel H. and Cornelia F. Vas Nunes. He was a holocaust survivor. Edward came to the United States, and became a U.S citizen after World War II. He served as a surgeon in the United States Air Force. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he had a successful career as Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery for a local hospital, retiring in 1987.
Edward was also known as a lover of classical music. He had a vast knowledge of the composers and their music. In his early years, he had played piano and had hoped as a young man to be a concert pianist before deciding on a career in medicine. He loved the arts, and was an avid supporter.
Edward loved living in California, and said he would never live anywhere else. He loved living on the water, boating, going to the beach and traveling. He loved Christmas and decorated his house every year for the Huntington Harbor Flotilla, and many friends were invited to his home to take part.
Edward was predeceased by his parents and his older brother David D. Vas Nunes whose lives were taken in Auschwitz. He was also predeceased by his wife Ann L. Vas Nunes in January, 1987 and Paula G. Vas Nunes who passed in February, 2016, a son-in law William Warren, and his great grandson Nicholas Harvey. Edward is survived by his daughter Isabel Warren of Cuba, NY, his son Edward Peter Vas Nunes, and wife Kathy of Greenville, NC, granddaughter Meghann Warren, and her son Will, of Cuba NY.
He will be sadly missed by his family. Military Honors will be performed Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Peek Funeral Home in Westminster, and he will be laid to rest at a later date at the National Cemetery in Riverside, CA.
