A number of years back my oldest son Garret had just gotten hired by the California State Lifeguard program and was attending their week+ long intensive, boot-camp-like training program down in Huntington Beach. Half way into his week he texts me and asked if I knew someone named Khoi Dang, I told him that I did (Khoi and I had been work colleagues and friends for years) - he texts back and says that Khoi's son is at the training program with him, small world! A few days later, at their graduation event, Khoi sends me a number of photos, including the one above. We live up in Ventura and I wasn't able to attend the event and Khoi was thoughtful enough to take the pictures and  send me some. Just a small, some might event say insignificant, act of kindness. Neither Khoi, nor I, realized this would be the last time we interacted and suddenly that small act  becomes so much less small, and not insignificant at all - it will be a memory of him I'll keep forever. I come across this picture on my phone from time to time and it always makes me smile. Khoi and I weren't too much older than this when we first met and became friends at FileNet. I heard this theme about small acts of kindness and thoughtfulness throughout todays memorial service when people shared their experiences about Khoi. To me it's a reminder that we should all follow Khoi's example and perform those small acts as often and as diligently as he did. You just never know when that small act is suddenly not so small. I'll always be grateful to Khoi for this picture above.

I am deeply sorry to hear about Khoi's passing. I first met Khoi when he started at FileNet, and we worked closely together on projects for many years. We shared countless lunches, talking about our families as they grew up over the years. He was so proud of each of you.

Khoi and I both loved talking about the Lakers and the Angels, and we even went to a few Angels games together. He was extremely knowledgeable about investing, and I learned a great deal from him. I feel fortunate to have spent so much time with Khoi over the years and to have had him as a friend.

Dear Laura & family

I'm so sorry to hear about Khoi passing.
May God give you and family strength.

Khoi and I crossed path multiple times at beginning of our career.
We were UC Irvine classmates, and started to work for Hughes around the same time.
We both received MS from USC thru Hughes fellowship.
I remember catching classes in CCTV room at Hughes campus during work hours.
Carpooled to USC to take midterm and finals.
 
I can still vividly remember a few years out of college, 
Khoi, myself, and Lin brothers were going to start a business 
to help local governments entering online era by offering digitizing services.
We spent countless hours hurdle in Khoi's home to hammer out business plans.
Did some travel to visit equipment vendors, and government contacts.
Ultimately we were too good to be employed as engineers.

Khoi will be missed.
I feel lucky to have Khoi as classmate, colleague, and  friend.

I had the pleasure to work with Khoi at FileNet/IBM.  He has helped our team countless times on difficult issues and always take pride in his work.  

I will cherish the times we worked together and also socialized, including playing basketball with him.

I worked with Khoi for his entire FileNet / IBM career and have so many great memories of him.  He was a dedicated, intelligent and caring co-worker.  The pictures Quynh shared bring a smile to my face and remind me of good times!  Khoi also blessed me by inviting me into his family and letting me rent their condo in Ko'Olina.  A little bit of paradise here on earth.  Thank you Laura!  I will miss Khoi and am praying for you and the kids.  I know you must be absolutely devastated.

I worked with Khoi for almost 25 years at FileNet then IBM.  He was a good teammate and friend.    We at IBM also knew Khoi to be great husband and father.  He often told us about swim meets and what his children have accomplished.   

During this time of loss, I want you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Khoi's spirit will forever shine through you, and  his love will continue to guide your path.
